How does the Autobudget tool work?
Autobudget tool estimate the household expenditure based on family size, city, income levels, inflation
rates etc, based on data assimilated and rationalized from 3 key source:
(1) Base data derived from the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey
(HCES) 2023-24 by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Govt. of India.
(2) Validation and rationalization of above data based on multiple
data points from third party sources and our own survey of family expenditures, and
(3) Market observed price points for a few large expense categories
such as school fees, insurance premium rates, house rent benchmarks and restaurant meal prices across
cities.
What are the limitations for Autobudget tool?
Autobudget tool works the best for:
(1) Monthly household income (post-tax, excl. investment income) between
INR 40,000 - 50,00,000 per month.
(2) Only for Urban Indian cities - Metros, Tier 1, 2 and 3. It
doesn't work for rural areas or outside India as yet.
(3) Family size of 1 - 8 persons.
I can't find my city of residence in the list above. Can I still use this tool?
We have currently included the top 80 cities in India covering all Metros, Tier 1 and some Tier 2 cities. If your city is not listed here then you can use some other city in the same tier as yours and preferably within the same state, to get your customized family budget. Refer to this link for an exhaustive list of Indian cities by Tiers.
Why am I being asked for my monthly household income?
A family's income is one of the best indicators of what they can afford, their lifestyle and expenditure patterns. For most of us, if not all, it is the maximum ceiling for how much we would/should spend towards our expenses. Hence the monthly household income is required for Autobudget tool to recommend your expenses and savings.
How is data security and privacy ensured for my input data?
Any data that you provide (except email-id) is not saved on our servers. It is only used as input to
generate the budget output in runtime and never written to our server memory or any file beyond the
runtime.
We do save your email-id in our system for future communications and updates. In fact, you can
choose to generate the budget by providing us some dummy email-id, if you do not wish to receive the
spreadsheet version of the Budget output in your inbox.
